Cortisol can be an important hormone in determining why some people eat more when they are stressed and others eat less. A recent Yale University study found in the Journal of Healthy Weightlifting that 60 women who were pressured to perform with unrealistic time constraints found that those who had high levels of cortisol in their saliva exercised After eating the most fatty food. Women who hid the lowest amount of cortisol did not eat high-fat foods. Researchers have explained that cortisol is linked to both emotions and food: during chronic stress, a combination of high cortisol and high insulin tells the body to store fat as a resource for the next difficult time.
